Moving Average Crossover Trading Strategy

Moving average crossover trading strategy is my favorite techniques to do trading, 

it is very simple and easy to learn.

Trading systems based on fast moving averages are quite easy to follow.

You can apply this on any currency pair.

Time frame chart: 1 hour or 15 minute chart.

Indicators: 10 EMA, 25 EMA, 50 EMA.
Trade Entry rules: When 10 EMA goes through 25 EMA and continues through 50 EMA, BUY/SELL in the direction of 10 EMA once it clearly makes it through 50 EMA. (Just wait for the current price bar to close on the opposite site of 50 EMA. This waiting helps to avoid false signals).

Exit rules: option1: exit when 10 EMA crosses 25 EMA again.

option2: exit when 10 EMA returns and touches 50 EMA (again it is suggested to wait until the current price bar after so called “touch” has been closed on the opposite side of 50 EMA).


Advantages: Easy to use,  it gives very good results when the market is trending, during big price break-outs and big price moves.
Disadvantages: Fast moving average indicator is a follow-up indicator or it is also called a lagging indicator, which means it does not predict future market directions, but rather reflects current situation on the market. This characteristic makes it vulnerable: firstly, because it can change its signals any time, secondly – because need to watch it all the time; and finally, when market trades sideways (no trend) with very little fluctuation in price it can give many false signals, so it is not suggested to use it during such periods.

What is Hedging in Forex Trading

Hedging means safety and security during your trading. It works as an "Insurance Policy". Hedging is protection of the client’s funds from unfavorable currency quoting rate fluctuations. The funds on the account are fixed at their current price through conducting deals at Forex. Thus, hedging helps to reduce the exposure to risks connected with the currency rate changes, which helps to achieve the result not being changed by their fluctuations.

In fact, hedging presupposes using one instrument in order to lower the risk which is connected with influence of the unfavorable market factors on the price of a closely connected with it instrument. More often, the notion ‘hedging’ means insurances from the currency prices fluctuations, assets etc. Hedging can also be viewed at as a sort of investment, made in order to minimize the risk, connected with price movements at the market. The hedging cost should be valued with regard to possible losses in the event of the refusal from it.

Types of Hedging

The first type is hedging the buyer’s funds to lower the risk connected with a possible increase of the instrument price. Another type is hedging the seller’s funds in order to lower the risk connected with the decrease of the price.

Example of hedging.

A trader who imports foreign currency opens a deal for buying currency on his trading account in advance, and when the real time for buying this currency in his bank comes, he closes his position. And a trader, who is exporting foreign currency, opens a deal for selling the currency on his trading account beforehand, and in the real moment of this currency buying in his bank closes it.

There is a so-called hedging mechanism, which denotes the balancing of obligating documents at the currency market (or securities etc.) and the opposed to it futures market. To hedge capital losses from a particular instrument, the position is opened for another instrument, which can compensate the financial losses.

Many trades are still confusing with Bid & Ask price shown in Market Watch Window in Meta Trader 4. Although it is some confusing but east to understand it. Every trade must know and understand it before start trading. Let try to understand it...

Before giving its details, one point should be noted that some trader/broker trades in single currency (USD or GBP etc), whereas almost trades/brokers trades in Currency Cross-pairs e.g. EUR/USD etc.

ASK PRICE: This is highest price of the currency pair or single currency.
(a)   In single currency, it is SELL price of the corresponding currency.

(b)   In cross currency paid, on ASK price we sell second currency in pair and BUY first currency in pair. for example EUR/USD has price Bid price1.4502 & Ask price 1.4505, here we sell USD and Buy EUR on this price on 1.4505. 

BID PRICE:  This is lowest price of the currency pair or single currency.

(a)   In single currency, it is BUY price of the corresponding currency.

(b)   In cross currency paid, on BID price we BUY first currency and SELL first currency in pair. for example EUR/USD has price Bid price1.4502 & Ask price 1.4505, here we sell EUR and Buy USD on this price on 1.4503.
